Web development 5 points to consider

Web development 5 points to consider

1. Make it simple for the user to find information

Your web development approach should give users the information they are looking for by providing high-quality content on your website. Most importantly, the homepage is the single most important page as this page invites the user to continue exploring your website. Failing to do so will result high “bounce” rates. This refers to the percentage of visitors who enter the site and "bounce" (leave the site) rather than continue viewing other pages.

2. Ensure you follow a logical link structure Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

You or a web development professional should use a text browser, such as Lynx, to examine your site. Most spiders see your site much as Lynx would. If features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Macromedia Flash keep you from seeing the entire site in a text browser, then spiders may have trouble crawling it.

3. Ensure you capture users attention with interesting content

As an experience web development agency we cannot stress this point enough. Unless your website is interesting then you won't capture the imagination of users. Avoid complex structures and don’t be afraid of “white space”. Don’t feel compelled to cramp too much information. You should also avoid exaggerated language and marketing-induced names. Last but not least, follow the KIS (keep-it-simple) principle.

4. Don't distract users with blinking and scrolling text, animated GIFs, or auto-loading sound.

Animation and sounds are distracting. Users find it difficult to concentrate on reading what's on your site when there are things flashing and popping up all over the place. It's like trying to read a newspaper when someone's poking you in the shoulder. Also, users who have slow connections may resent that your website is forcing them to load animations and sound files against their will.

Users who are assaulted by blinking ads are more likely to leave the site immediately without clicking on anything, and are far less likely to bookmark the site, return to it, link to it, and recommend it. Always keep your visitors' interests in mind. Make sure you try to please them, not yourself. Scrolling text does nothing to serve the visitor. If it's on a site it's because the owner or web development contractor thought, "Let me show how cool I am."

5. Make sure your website works, and that it keeps working

Follow the “TETO” Principle of “Test Early, Test Often”. This approach should be applied to every web development project as usability tests often provide crucial insights into significant problems and issues related to a given layout. Test not too late, not too little and not for the wrong reasons.
