Tenerife The New Top Destination
There are only a few places in the world where you will find a diversity of priceless ecological treasure and La Gomera is one of them. The 378 kilometers on the small island have been declared a Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO.

What you can expect to find are Los Reyes Magos - The Three Kings. This is when gifts are brought to children in the canary islands and is the biggest date of the entire winter holiday season, with parades through the streets in most towns, large and small. We have a full account of the parade, along with photos from Los Reyes 2006 in Garachico, so that you can get an idea of what is involved. It beats Santa in entertainment value any day!

One of the most "have to be there to believe it" moments in Lanzarote happens at one of final stopping points on the coach tours, a stop off at the Restaurant el Diablo. Prior to going into the restaurant the guides like to prove to you that this is an active volcano. There are 3 ways they do this. There is a natural cavity in the floor that goes down a fair way; the first experiment you see is the guide placing some straw into the cavity. After what feels like a few seconds the straw turns to flames, all this with the natural heat that is there just a few feet below us. At the next experiment you see a tube in the ground again it only goes down a few feet. Into this they pour some water, after 3 seconds the water and steam shoots out in a geyser like fashion.

If what you want is a British-style Christmas - turkey and stuffing - with added sun, then you can have that. Many of the British bars in the resorts put on a Christmas Lunch. Better ones may require reservations, so make that a priority on the night you arrive. With satellite TV available almost everywhere, you can probably still catch the Queen's Speech too.

Currently the shelter provides a home to 200 dogs and 100 cats. Another 50 cats are in foster care with volunteers. The shelter also provides veterinary care for the animals as well as an outdoor play area, special puppy and kitten zones and offices for a staff of six.

Timanfaya National Park is 51sq kilometres of volcanic soil and landscape. The views that you will see at the park make you feel like you are on another planet, this place is unforgettable when you come here.

The island is full of memorable places. Garajonay National Park in the highlands is highly recommended. Seventy percent of the park is covered with a luxurious laurel forest, much as one would have found in the last Ice Age. The park is named after Gara, a Guanche princess and Jonay, a son of a chieftain on Tenerife. A tragic lover's tale is this part of the island's history as well. Many natural springs are found in the heart of the forest.
